May 2010 - Check out our new Passive IR and Vibration sensors.

April 2010 -Have a look at the new Universal IR Remote. It can be used with StopShot or StackShot.

The Future

Our vision is to supply you with whatever tools you might need in taking high speed photographs. We want to help you take your photography to the next level. This includes more than the just StopShot (although that is a very good start). We have plans to make many accessories and add-ons to StopShot. We get requests for many high speed photography tools and we are working on several of those ideas now. This page is a compilation of the ideas that are currently on our roadmap. We can't make any promises about when they will be ready, but these are the things we are working on. When you purchase StopShot you are getting a premium high speed photography controller that will be supported by many future products and sensors. We are also very interested in issues you might be having when trying to capture an event. We love to solve problems. If you have a certain picture you are trying to capture or need a custom sensor let us know. Likely, we can help.

External Shutter

One of the limiting factors for taking high speed photographs during the light of day is the shutter lag of today's cameras. If you are shooting photos of something that is moving at a high rate of speed and has an unknown trajectory (i.e. a moving bird or insect) you know important shutter lag is. With today's cameras running around 50mS (at best) the object you are trying to photograph is long gone by the time your shutter gets around to opening. One way around this is to use a fast (1 to 5mS) external shutter. This allows you too capture fast moving objects during the light of day. This is especially challenging for macro photographers trying to get close ups of insects in flight.

Distance Dependant Sensors

Cross beam sensors work very well for many applications but sometimes you want a sensor that is smaller and doesn't require arms to hold out sensor elements. The arms can get in the way and also be triggered by objects in the periphery. This is where distance dependant sensors come in. We are working on designing a forward looking sensor that will be able to detect a small object at a given distance from the sensor. This will be especially useful for photographing insects amongst flowers, trees or other plants.

Weather Proof StopShot and Sensors

We have had several requests for a weather proof version of StopShot. One of the future enhancements we are planning is to combine StopShot with a portable power source and house it all in a waterproof box (like a Pelican Box). No changes would be made to StopShot itself, this box would just allow you to have everything in an easy to carry package and interface StopShot to the outside world through waterproof connectors. All of this would give you the capability to take StopShot out to the wilderness to chase birds and insects around without having to worry about getting StopShot wet.

High Speed Flash

A powerful short duration flash is required to get good high speed photographs with good depth of field. There are many different flashes out in the market place but very few are dedicated to high speed work. There are two holes in the current offerings for flashes, one is an extremely short duration flash (around 1us) and the second is a flash that is quite fast (50uS) but powerful enough to only require one flash for a reasonable distance. While there are one or two very short duration flashes out there they are extremely expensive. We are working to change that by building a short duration flash that is affordable.

Let us know what you think

We are a small company with limited resources so we can't work on all of this simultaneously. We would love to hear your opinion on what you think is the most important tool to advance your ability to take outstanding high speed photographs. Drop us an email at: sales@cognisys-inc.com and give us your opinion. We would love to hear from you.
